Neighborhood/Area Meetings

WCNA board meeting - The Tuesday before the WCNA general meeting (see below) at 6pm at Wellspring Interfaith Social Services (1316 Broadway) unless otherwise noted. Dates for 2010 are: March 9, April 13, May 11, June 15, July 13, August 10, September 14, October 12, November 9, and December 14.

WCNA general meeting - Third Monday of the month at 7pm at Wellspring Interfaith Social Services (1316 Broadway) unless otherwise noted. Dates for 2010 are: March 15, April 19, May 17, June 21, July 19, August 16, September 20, October 18, November 15, and December 20 (location subject to change).

WCNA Plan Committee meeting - Second Monday of the month. Monday, March 8 at 6:30 pm at Intrascape (1401 Broadway).

WCNA House & Garden Tour Committee meeting - Tuesday, February 23 at 7pm at Calhoun Street Soup Salad and Spirits (1915 S. Calhoun St.). This is the first meeting of the committee to begin work on the 2010 Home and Garden Tour scheduled for September 11 and 12, 2010. Anyone interested in participating is encouraged to attend.

Southwest Area Partnership (SWAP) meeting - Third Wednesday of the month at Bethany Lutheran Church (2435 Engle Rd.).

Historic West Main Street Farmers Market - On Saturdays through April 17, the market will be indoors at Paula's On Main (1732 W. Main St.). Hours are 9am to 12:30pm. Vendors will be selling greenhouse produce, apples, cider, jams, seafood, soups, breads, pies, cakes, candy, flowers, and artwork. For more info, contact Chris Shatto at 515-9700.

Downtown Landmarks - Winter Exhibit - Now through April 4 at the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory (1100 S. Calhoun St.). See models of city landmark buildings past and present. The Lincoln Tower, Baker Street Station, Keenan Hotel and other structures will be built and displayed by local architectural firms in the garden along with artifacts and information. Historical photographs, a life-size interurban car, and festive lights and decorations will make this display a fun visit. NEW Free Tax Preparation - Now through April 13. If you earned less than $49,000 last year, you may qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit and free tax assistance. Documents to bring: Picture ID for you and your spouse, if married and filing jointly; Social Security or ITIN cards and birth dates for you, your spouse, and dependents you are claiming; W-2 forms for ALL jobs held in 2009; 1099 forms (from Social Service Administration); any letter or notice you received from the IRS; a copy of last year’s return; if direct deposit, savings and/or checking account routing numbers; your spouse, if married filing jointly; landlord name, address, and amount of rent paid in 2009; if you paid for child care, documentation listing provider name, address, tax ID number, and amount paid; if you, your spouse or a child attended college, tuition expense statement (1098T) and/or student loan interest statement (1098E); home interest and property tax paid, medical bills paid; and charitable contributions made during the year. NEW Contemporary Pop Art exhibition - February 19 from 5pm to 11pm at the Dash-In, 814 South Calhoun St. Wunderkammer Company (W<) presents "Populous," an exhibition of contemporary Pop Art and experimental performances. "Populous" was organized to examine the significant segment of contemporary art which has its roots based in the art historical Pop Art movement of the 1960's. See works by Daniel Dienelt, Joshua Witten, John McCormick, Mike Shifflet, Holly Claybaugh, and Bambi Guthrie, and hear music by Sky Thing, Mac's Merry Minstrels, and Mason Dillon. Wunderkammer Company is an independent, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization based in Fort Wayne, IN, dedicated to the revitalization of communities through contemporary art.
