We will start at 9:00 and finish by 11:00.  Garbage bags, gloves, and free t-shirts will be provided, so join us to help clean-up and beautify our neighborhood.  After the Cleanup, all workers are invited to Headwaters Park for lunch provided by the City.

Whatever you want to call it, the dates are June 8th and June 9th with the option to also participate on June 10th.  June 10th is Father’s Day, so you will need to decide if you want to take Dad around our beautiful neighborhood to pick out a gift!  Who knows what treasures you will find – we certainly have plenty of arts and crafts and wonderful antiques in West Central.

So, mark your calendars for June 8th, June 9th, and June 10th.  The dates are set, and you set your hours.  Get ready for some fun in the neighborhood!

Garage sale in the neighborhood!

Diane has been a resident of West Central since 1974 and has now completed 125 works of art for her many satisfied customers.  What a thrill for us that airport travelers will see our beautiful and majestical neighborhood as they arrive and depart our City!

Enter, the Fort Wayne Office of Housing and Neighborhood Services (OHNS).  Once again, OHNS is offering the opportunity to obtain a low interest loan to help cover the cost of repairs and replacements that our older homes need.

The program opened on April 18th with completed applications due no later than August 31, 2012.  Please call 427-8585 or visit the office, located at Citizens Square, in person to let the City know you are interested.

As the weather warms, West Central comes alive with bikers, joggers, and walkers – and plenty of four-legged companions.  Our neighborhood not only enjoys “walkability” kudos within its residential area but also in its proximity to downtown.   We have access to many quality restaurants and gathering spots, historical buildings, houses of worship, well-kept parks, and a myriad of events – theatrical, sporting, musical, and educational – from which to choose.

As you scan the list of neighborhoods with their walkability scores, notice that it is those in our urban core that have the highest in ranking.  Subdivisions just don’t cut it when it comes to amenities within walking distance.  Just one more reason to make West Central and our urban core your destination of choice.

As you walk or drive in West Central, notice the stumps cut down to the ground – the death of once-stately trees decimated by Ash borer activity.  We have a lot to do to replace the large number we have lost; however, we hope our tree program will begin that process.

You may have read about or witnessed trees coming down all over the City.  Even in our very own West Central.  Darn that Emerald Ash Borer!

But alas, take heart, we’re fighting back!  That’s right, the WCNA is partnering with our residents to plant new trees in the park strips of West Central by paying the $75.00 fee the City charges through its Street Tree Program.  If you, the property owner, provide fill out the form below and send it in prior to June 15, 2012, we’ll apply on your behalf for the tree installation. We have budgeted funds for about twenty trees this year, so hurry up and apply!  Requests will be considered on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Now you might be thinking, “We just lost a towering beauty of an ash tree, what good is a little 8′ sapling going to do.”  That’s understandable, of course.  But what if your grandparents thought that way?  That towering ash started out as a tiny little 8-footer! They planted it for you, so let’s plant them for our kids and grandkids.  Just think of it as another form of preservation.
