Minutes of April 21, 2008 Meeting

 

 

 

GUEST SPEAKER

·                     Trevin Brown

o       Neighborhood liaison

o       Addressed issue of armed robberies

o       Spoke about theft of copper pipes – a number of suspects in mind

§         New scrap business on Anthony

§         Although it is easier because of proximity to transport pipes, the business is very careful

§         Requires IDs and photos

o       Minutes from the March meeting were read and approved with one correction

·                     Treasurer’s Report

·         accepted

·                     Membership Report

o       45 individuals

o         6 businesses

COMMITTEE REPORTS

 

·                  Planning Committee

o       Working on Around-the-Square

o       Addressed future capital improvement plans

§         CEDIT funds have been frozen

§         City is in a crunch as to finances due to loss of funds from property taxes

§         Broadway will still be done

 

·                  Thieme Drive

o       Concrete appears to have some deficiencies – coloring is different and stands out from older concrete

 

 

·                  House Tour

o       House tour –meeting will be April 23, 2008 at 7:00 p.m.

o       Have 6 or 7 for sure

o       Firefighters will open the renovated fire house

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

·                     Expansion of Local Historic District

o       City would like to move to expand local historic district

o       Will be primarily single family homes

o       58% of property owners need to sign

o       Committee needs to set boundaries

·                     1134 Nelson Street

o       Real estate agent has been showing house

o       Dumpster needs to be picked up from the back yard, but city wants to wait until it dries out a little more

o       Furnace was repaired - $180

o       Other repairs – copper lines ($480), condenser ($150), water heater ($300)

o       Total repairs about $1,000

o       Discussion was held as to handle the increase in thefts

·                     802 Lavina

o       Can be saved for maybe 2 years

§                     Neighborhood Code

·         Cindy Joyner pretty much in line with our desire to mothball homes rather than tear them down

·         Tom Cain explained focus of working with FWPD – getting vacant houses into hands of owners

o                   National Historic District

·         Don Orban and Creager Smith seem to think there shouldnt be any problems

·         Motion by T. Cain to look into areas of West Central not already covered under National Historic Registry – T. Potter seconds – motion passes

o                   W. Washington

·         815, 817, and 825 W. Washington – Bernie Gump has purchased 815 and 817

o                   Grand Central

·         Unknown purchaser – in foreclosure

·         ARCH in good position for the ARCH house at VanBuren and W. Washington

o                   Great American Clean-Up

·         May 17, 2008 – David to obtain dumpster

·         Will be working on city parking lot at corner of Wilt and VanBuren

o                   Tire Day

·         David to check on tire day dates

 

 

 

NEW BUSINESS

·                     1218 Fulton

o       City wants to acquire for possible new CHDO project but currently has been mothballed to save

o       Must sell 1134 Nelson before new CHDO project is undertaken

·                     Betty Bright

o       Back garage is gone

o       Ricardo Alvarez has purchased and wants to put in a Greek restaurant

o       Frontage along Jefferson – may be used for parking

·                     Eric Fisher

o       New owner of Downtown Pizza

o       Also owns Garrison Flats and W. Berry Apartments

·                     Yard Sale

o       Mike will check on dates
