o       Minutes from March  meeting were read and approved

·                     Treasurer’s Report

·         Approved

·                     Membership Report – no report

o       19 seniors -  49 individuals., 6 org., and 11 businesses

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

·                  Planning Committee

o       No report

·                  CCW

o       No report

·                  House Tour

o       Next meeting is April 28, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. at Fire Station

o       Need more houses

o       Need more underwriiters to help with aspects of tour such as flowers, banners, etc.

·                  LHD – Meeting cancelled – maybe try for May?

·                  Thieme Drive – J. Stark will contact city to schedule meeting re: plans from West Central

 

OLD BUSINESS

§                  Dog Signs

·          Have more to sell - $10.00 a piece

§                  T-Shirts

·         Cream logo – will cost $10.00 each

·         D. Groenert will do – needs at least 6 to do a batch

·         Can drop off at Art Up – Fridays – 12-2

·                  Washington Elementary Playground Equipment

·         Discussion as to donation

·         Al Hofer to see what dollar amount would be acceptable and provide at May meeting

§         1134 Nelson Street

·         Had offer and WCNA countered

·         Potential buyer had a couple of stipulations

·         Community Connections is involved

·         Interest in the amount of $163 a month is now adding up

§         Calhoun Street

·         City Council passed resolution to restructure to a 2-way street

·         Calhoun Street merchants are not happy with 2-way proposal

·         City wants to widen street and work to begin at the end of August

·         J. Stark makes motion to have Planning Committee research issue and bring back to next meeting – C. Ruckman seconds – passes

§         Canterbury Clean-Up

·         The yards of six abandoned homes were cleaned

·         Students walked the streets and cleaned up debris and dirt

·         Discussion as to how to thank group – ideas mentioned were a Thank You card or a plaque

·         C. Ruckman makes a motion to spend $25-$50 on a plaque – J. Stark seconds – passes

§         St. Joe Empty Lot

·         B. Shoppman (sp. ?) – St. Joe is working on a plan for the corner of VanBuren/Main

·         May 4th is 100th anniversary

·         If park is approved, may be dedicated to Jerry Henry

NEW BUSINESS

·         Emmanuel Area 3

·         City wants to expand improvement project to include all of West Central – Emmanuel believes this is more than it wants to become involved with

·         West Central Housing project

·         Informational meeting will be held on April 21st from 7:00 – 9:00 – will be open to all WCNA members

·         Henry Hall/Chris Flick/Heather Presley will present Section 42 Housing Plan

·         Area includes south of RR tracks (Area 5) to Taylor

·         Concerns may be long-term strategy – does it match West Central goals?

·         Renaissance Pointe area was first target – neighborhood opposed so City would not back project without neighborhood support

·         Hall/Flick – corp. set up in 2006

·         Area 3 Housing

·         Original plan was to have $30,000 loan to WCNA – then pass through to Emmanuel

·         City now wants to spend $50,000-$60,000 for a master plan housing update for West Central

·         Emmanuel prefers to remain under Area 3 plan

·         Emmanuel Task Force met to decide whether or not project will be too big and will step back

·         CHDO

·         CHDO would acquire property and certain percentage would come back to West Central

·         Property must be sold to non-profit – if CHDO becomes more viable will need an executive director and need to improve infrastructure

·         Business on Broadway

·         Family Day at McCullough Park – June 6, 2009, from 2:00-6:30.

·         Need sponsors for games, etc.

·         Need volunteers to work at stations – would booth cost?

·         Could give out literature about West Central & House Tour

 

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS

·                     Homeward Bound Walk – 12 agencies – April 26, 2009 – 12:00-2:00
