TREASURER’S REPORT

·         July Reports – presented and accepted

o        Starting to receive House & Garden Tour expenses; sponsorships coming in as well.

 

MEMBERSHIP

·         Remains at 101 total memberships prior to August WCNA Association meeting.

 

HOUSE & GARDEN TOUR COMMITTEE

·         Sponsorship commitments are higher than 2009; expenses are higher as well.

·         Meetings now held weekly on Wednesday’s through Tour weekend, September 11 & 12.

 

FLOOD COMMITTEE

 

CCW

o        Is not being enforced by the city

o        City attorney, Tim Mangus, to research the South Bend local drug ordinance to see how they enforce code.  Tim continues to work on the effort.

 

PLAN COMMITTEE

 

 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

 

·         Section 42

o        John Simerman recapped WCNA efforts of Section 42 over the past two years.

o        Most recent efforts headed up by Henry Hall’s group have ceased. 

o        West Central Board has started conversations with Whitley Crossing Neighborhood Association (part of Passages); they have experience in Section 42 projects and may be interested in West Central.  Board to send them data so they can review.

o        Many homes currently on Section 42 hold list for West Central are being released due to hold status expiring.

 

·         CHDO

o        Board continues discussion efforts on determining if 825 W. Washington is a CHDO project possibility

§         Floor plan proposed by West Central sent back to city to have a redefined cost estimate. 

o        West Central’s CHDO certification has expired; Jill Downs will submit recertification paperwork.

 

·         Local Historic District (LHD)

o        Efforts to bring more streets and homes into the Local Historic District status will require the neighborhood to bring our committee back to active status.  Looking for Volunteers – please contact Vice President, Charlotte Weybright.

 

o        We need to start efforts over (from 2008) and determine the best game plan to get expansion approved, which may change the proposed expansion map.

o        Gathering signatures may need to wait until the spring, but will determine as Committee moves forward.

o        Drive consists of:

§         Educating those impacted of what LHD means to them and their community

§         Volunteers to walk door to door asking for support through signatures; requires minimum of 51% of homeowners signatures in expanded areas

§         Compiling educational material for group discussions & door to door discussions.

 

·         Dumpster Days

o        2nd Dumpster Day = August 21th 

o        Volunteers Needed! Meet at the public parking lot on the corner of Van Buren and Wilt streets at 8:00 am. The Solid Waste Department of the City of Fort Wayne will provide a garbage truck so that we can clean up alleys in the neighborhood north of Jefferson Blvd. in anticipation of the Home & Garden Tour, September 11 and 12.

 

 

NEW BUSINESS/ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

·         Wilt & Union Street Community Garden

o        Property owned by Emmanuel Lutheran Church – church is supporting use of land and willing to supply water.

o        Kathy Krueckeberg spoke with WCNA members during August meeting on her vision of the garden.  She and her husband are currently working on the plan and will look to gather neighborhood and/or church member volunteers to help with ongoing maintenance. 

o        She will keep us updated as plans progress.
