Minutes of October 20, 2008 Meeting

 

 

 

GUEST SPEAKER

 

Beverly Zuber, Wayne Township Trustee, addressed the issue of keeping the Wayne Township Trustee.  Wayne Township has over 50,000 properties of the 150,000+ in Allen County.

 

The voters of St. Joe, Aboite, and Wayne Townships will have the opportunity on November 4th to decide whether or not to keep the township assessors.  Bev handed out cards with information about the assessor and that urged voters to vote to keep the Wayne Township assessor as an elected office.

 

REPORTS

·                     Minutes 

o       Minutes from the September meeting were read and approved

·                     Treasurer’s Report

·         accepted

·                     Membership Report – estimated (same as in June and July)

o       70 individuals

o       14 businesses

o         1 patron

o       Memberships are due in January

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

·                  Planning Committee

o       No report

·                  CCW

o       Not going to get involved in the drug ordinance

·                  Thieme Drive – Mike spoke to San Gunawardena and the study should be completed soon

o       City waiting on flood control info

o       City would like to establish a bike lane running west rom Anthony on Berry to where it ends at Thieme and then a return path east on Wayne back to Anthony

o       Bikes must follow flow of traffic

o       Speed bumps were mentioned as a way to calm traffic but the City is against speed bumps

o       Councilman Pape is supportive of our efforts to calm traffic on Thieme Drive

·                  LHD – meeting is on November 11, 2008, at Fire station from 7-9 p.m.

·                  Other – officer committee – L. Codding to chair nominating committee

o       Nominations so far consist of the following:

§         Mike Anderson – President

§         Steve Miranda – Vice-President

§         Charlotte Weybright – Secretary

§         Chris Ruckman – Treasurer

§         Cherie Stark – Membership

o       Other interested persons may be nominated or ask to be put on the ballot at the November meeting (open nominations)

 

OLD BUSINESS

·                     Expansion of Local Historic District

o       see note under committees

·                     1134 Nelson Street

o       Potential buyer is close to end of probationary employment period and has been approved through Community Conenctions

o       Plumbing has been repaired

o       Discussion as to G. Ellenbarger charging a commission and then donate commission back

§                     Emmanuel Lutheran Church

·         Pre-development funds application is ready to submit

·         Trunk or Treat for Halloween – show films – vehicles will be used to hold candy, etc. for children

·         Set for 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. October 31, 2008.

·         Jackson Street will be closed for the festivities

·                     Dog Bombs – 30 signs have been ordered – will charge $10.00 each

·                     Part-time Bookkeeper – Kim (Intrascape) may volunteer

·                     Other – 700 block of Wilt – still issue of drug dealing

o       1309 Stophlet – drug house with ongoing dealing

 

NEW BUSINESS

·                     Great Tree Canopy Comeback

o       will need volunteers to help at Moody Park at 10:00 a.m. on November 1, 2008.

o       AEP is hosting a picnic at Swinney Park for the volunteers from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

·                     Christmas Party – will be December 15, 2008, at 7:00 to ?

o       Mark Shank volunteered to organize

o       T. Cain made motion to spend up to $300 on food and drink; Joanne seconded; motion passed

 

·                     Membership dues

o       Dues have not been increased for some time, so a discussion was held as to suggestions to increase the dues as follows:

§         $15 – (60 and over $10)

·         January 1 – June 30 – full amount of $15 due

·         July 1 – December 31 - $10 due

§         Seniors – January 1 – June 30 – full amount of $10

·         July 1 – December 31 - $5

o       Membership levels have been included in the by-laws, and the Board suggests that provision for dollar amount be removed from the by-laws

§         T. Cain makes a motion to remove from the by-laws with any new amounts to be established by the Board and approved at the general meeting; L. Codding seconds; motion passes

o       Proposal to accept the new rates

§         T. Cain makes motion to accept and approve; L. Codding seconds; motion passes

·                     St. John Lutheran Church – holding a Pumpkin Patch – pumpkins will be priced by size and purchasers will be able to carve pumpkin and take home

o       will also be holding a Trunk or Treat night from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Halloween

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS

·                     Soda blasting demonstration to remove graffiti at Scott Greider’s Broadway building on October 25, 2008, at 9:30 a.m.

o       Don Orban indicates he would like to see the demonstration

·                     Material/articles for newsletter due October 31, 2008.

·                     CCW – October 21, 2008, at Creighton Police station
